It is yellow or light yellow solid. It is easy to burn and produce sulfur dioxide at the combustion temperature of 248-261 ℃ generally. It is soluble in carbon disulfide, carbon tetrachloride and benzene, slightly soluble in ethanol and ether, and insoluble in water. It has poor conductivity and thermal conductivity. Liquid sulfur can dissolve hydrogen sulfide, and its solubility increases with the increase of temperature, but hydrogen sulfide can be separated out when the temperature drops. Sulfur is used for production of sulfuric acid, dye and rubber products, and used in industrial sectors, such as pharmaceutical, etc. (High-purity sulfur is used in semiconductor industry).
